I got to utilize my UC role as manager of Integrity House- There were long times of duration during my multi year stint where I wasn't introduced as manager- I was just one of the guys so to speak- I was somewhat surprised by how open and brazen some individuals would be- When one is coerced into the recovery house world many times they play the part talk the talk but still get high- I would never forget early on before we were able to test for fentanyl one young man was high as a kite- This meant we didn't have the fentanyl strips yet so after I called the gm to test this individual he would pass-
This never works out for the individual long term because once he was made manager and kept getting high I made sure he was caught and thrown out dead to rights-
Then there are the young men looking to score and openly asking about it whether looking for a plug down in Miami or locating a opiate pill in the interim- This proves intent to get high which is equal to getting high itself which is grounds for expulsion- Its tough as an owner you have to do what's right even if that means throwing out half the house all at once- That means more people on the street with no where to go- In the beginning we had the structure where they had to go to meetings and therapy- That wore off after a while because its supposed to be a program of attraction rather then promotion- In sober living its freedom with responsibility- If somebody is working hard in their job staying sober and being respectful how can you really throw them out just because they hate AA and too much of the God talk- So that's where Smart Recovery comes into play but many don't want to do that either- Just smoke like a chimney which is an entirely different conversation about addiction- It was an interesting experience- I am grateful for my graduation from survival to sovereignty-
