Texas Pictures Documentaries- Lauren Cole a beautiful young woman that overdosed from fentanyl poisoning in 2020- This is tragic and one of many stories and West Virginia was one of the worst states for this- It is hard to comprehend how bad this epidemic was- I was involved in the midst of it the Fla shuffle- My concern was trying to mitigate the chances of an od-
What Lauren's parents went through is also heart wrenching but also quite common- They didn't know what to do except listen to the professionals and this is when she allegedly went to a sober living drug den- These were springing up all over the place to try and keep up with the demand but when that happens early recovery drug addicts end up running the program-
I experienced this directly when I got sober in 2015 I went straight to sober living- This business model comes down to the last one standing ends up being house manager- What I mean by that is the last person who didn't get thrown out for a dirty urine sample ended up running the house- And due to the nature of the strong addiction in many cases these individuals would end up getting caught and thrown out as well-
In a system where there isn't any money involved for the owners if they aren't doing insurance- In fact with all of the fees for compliance it ends up not being a viable business model at all even with a packed house- This means the managers don't get paid and just get a rent reduction and they are in early recovery themselves with a high recurrence probability-
This sets up a negative situation for everybody because people need solid role models to confide in- Sober ones that don't have any more reservations about ever getting high again-
Lauren's parents went through hell and they are only one of many who did everything right but got caught up in a system where everybody was getting high around their daughter in sober living- Her mother stated that there was only one girl that was alive from that sober living -This is how bad the epidemic was- Managers need to get paid at these places and they need to have solid verifiable sobriety- That is not possible without getting insurance pay outs so this makes it difficult as a viable business- Most owners don't go into ventures where they are only going to squeak by if they are lucky- The only solution is to turn these places into non profits and get donations-
